We pay a tribute to the Beatles, the charismatic band, 60 years after their beginning
Pop music is unarguably the most “popular” music among young people, but most of them do not know how this craze began. In the very beginning, music was defined as a piece of art made by an orchestra, and “musical arrangement” obviously was not in their vocabulary. But suddenly, a fresh air breeze born in the British city of Liverpool flooded all the musical world, changing it for the better. A little “garage” group, created by a group of four friends turned the song industry upside down, creating a new sound and inaugurating what we now know as “the crazy 60s”. You got it, we are talking about The Beatles, the biggest influence in the history of music. There has been 50 years since their first chords starting to charm us.
The Beatles were originally created in 1960 by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Stuart Sutcliffe, who was replaced by Ringo Starr, as anyone who boasts about musical knowledge may know. During the 60s, this band began to play in private locals for a reduced audience, and starting what is considered to be one of the most revolutionary changes in the musical recent history, the musical arrangements. The Beatles are the pioneers of what we call music engineering, indispensable in the contemporaneous music. In 1963 they recorded their first 2 albums: Please Please Me and With The Beatles, with known songs such as Love Me Do or Please Mr. Postman. Their popularity increased exponentially while they were working on that there would be their explosion, A Hard Day’s Night, where songs like “Can’t Buy My Love” quickly comes to our minds, being 21 weeks in the first position of the sales and radio charts. The craze about this Liverpool phenomenon raised, making their next LPs to be as famous as Beatles For Sale, Rubber Soul or Revolver, which were a sensation even before their publication.
Though, in 1967, made a U-Turn with “ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” which incredibly influenced all pop groups from then on. With top-notch songs as Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and A Day in the Life it was obvious that something was happening, The Beatles were there. What is more, nowadays it is consider by the critics (magazines such as The Rolling Stones) to be the best album in the history. In spite of the skeptical opinions that their rivals, the Beatles movement was far from its end, as they released new albums that added even more mysticism to their already huge legend. Being in the peak of success the controversy in their personal life began to take part. Drug-addicts to LSD, womanizers, and with internal disputes, could indicate that those omens could be more right than it could seem in the first place. The beginning of the end had a name, Yoko Ono, John Lennon’s girlfriend, and his fight with Paul McCartney’s, Linda, for the leadership of the group, which caused John and Paul to argue. As a result of this, the group started to be in decadence, having time to release their last high-class LPs, “Yellow Submarine”, “Abbey Road” and “Let it be”.
